Poetry workshop for caregivers slated

A poetry workshop for family caregivers of older adults will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona.

Presented by former Big Island resident Frances Kakugawa, author of several books including “Mosaic Moon,” the workshop will focus on easing caregiving through poetry and journaling. Participants will learn that they are not alone in their caregiving journey.

Refreshments will be provided at this free event sponsored by the Hawaii County Office of Aging.

Booths available at school fair

The second annual Country Fair at Kealakehe Elementary School is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 17. A dunking booth, jumping castle, game and food booths for keiki are planned. Adults can bid on silent auction items, purchase produce and baked goods and shop at the crafts and rummage sale. All proceeds raised go to Kealakehe Elementary and Kealakehe After-School Tutoring and Enrichment Programs.

Canine costume parade Saturday in Waimea

The Waimea Town Market at Parker School will host its fourth annual Halloween Hounds Costume Parade Saturday. The event will feature pooches of all sizes and shapes dressed in seasonal finery. Prize ribbons will be awarded in five categories: funniest, cutest, scariest, most original and judges’ choice. All canine contestants will receive a gift of Kalakoa Kookies dog treats for their participation.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m.; the parade begins at 10 a.m. Market vendors will compete for ribbons for booth decorations.
